java vs php

PHP Succeeding where Java isnt

once you start comparing different fruits on the same bowl - exalting one at the expense of the other - please proceed with caution.

yeah, PHP can be simpler than Java - but that's pure preference. people have built careers and institutions around the two. who's to say which is better? both of them work - it's all about using what works well for your business. different fruits, different vitamins, same bowl.

while PHP development can be straightforward and simple, Java web applications offers scalability over a bigger system architecture that PHP is not yet capable of doing. (or at least i am not yet capable of doing)

imho, PHP works well with small and medium-sized enterprises in terms of the investment's rate of return. developing web sites and web applications on PHP is cheaper than having it done in Java, especially more so with the ever-growing number of PHP developers. however, i think J2EE still does the job better for providing solutions to big enterprises.

as with IT, it's all about using the right tool in your SDLC. don't use a concrete mixer to scramble eggs. it's just not right.
